After reading everything this week on personal branding I feel one of the biggest take away for me was how social media can affect my job and career. While I know most people like to front and stretch on social media I never thought of that coming back to bite someone. I cannot even imagine losing my career over a Facebook post. I know I mostly thought of social media as a place to be myself and be open, but I am now seeing how that is a bad idea depending on what I am putting out there. I know after reading all those articles I will personally make sure I do not post anything that could make me be a negative candidate for employment. I know now that even a private profile doesn’t mean my employer won’t be able to see my online post. As far as promoting my brand I am hoping to share more things regarding my career on LinkedIn. In order to show any potential employers how passionate I am about my field. I am hoping to consistently keep up with it, because I am now realizing it looks bad to keep it outdated and not regularly updated. I would also like to be able to share some of my professional opinions openly on my Facebook wall so my family and friends can also see how up to date I am about my field. I feel these articles were able to lay out an abundance of great tips and advice to promote myself and my career. I am hoping I can take these tips to help make my graduate school search easier and help me achieve employment as fast as possible after I obtain my degrees. I am know realizing that a face to face meeting isn’t the only light employers see you in.
